Tips from someone who is definitely going to stay pregnant and have a healthy baby for sure, no doubt about it.

Now that I am an authority on how to get pregnant (Universe, that’s a JOKE. Please don’t kill my embryo just because I still have a sense of humor!), I thought you might like to know how I achieved this miracle. Of course we can’t know for sure, but I’d say there were multiple factors leading up to the (temporary, one-day-at-a-timey, please let this not endy) success of my fifth IUI:

1. Red Raspberry for Fertility jelly doughnuts.
2. Being inseminated on four year wedding anniversary.
3. Having oppressive Best Friend with Baby move away. (I mean, seriously, I got pregnant on the first cycle after she left town.)
4. Following clinic instructions regarding alcohol, exercise, and caffeine.
5. Random chance.
6. Having three large meatballs removed from my abdomen.

And here’s the approximate contribution of each factor.

So while most of you can’t arrange to have 2, 3 or 6 come to pass, 1 is under your control, my friends. (And not to worry, I asked my RE and he says you can adapt the recipe to a gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, sugar free diet without the treatment losing any of its efficacy.)

As for how to STAY pregnant…I’m still conducting research. But I hope–with every fiber of my being–to have some data to share in a few months.

  1. Doughnuts are the answer! I KNEW IT. But WAIT! SHOULD THEY HAVE THE HOLE, OR NOT?

  3. this past april fool's day, my bf wrote on facebook that her boyfriend got transferred to the london office, so they'd need to move stat. my reaction (since i'm a gullible idiot), was (a) yes!!! (bc she's more intrusive than i'd like lately) and (b) that b*tch updated this on fb before telling me?? she's oppressive for sure, but no baby (yet). i wouldn't put it past her though, now that she's engaged, to try to spit one out 9 months after the wedding date. so, i'm gonna start hoping for numero 3.ugh, i've been craving a donut ever since you posted that pic last month. i'm going to have to research where i can get myself a gluten free donut that doesn't taste like sh*t!!

  4. You just made my day! I got to school this morning and was somewhat dreading having to revise my results section for the nth time. Your fertility graph just inspired me tremendously to keep plowing through. Thank you Dr. Bunny. You are my inspiration. And how fast can we get to the 20th you think?

  5. p.s. I am so relieved to hear that wheat-free, dairy-free raspberry doughnuts are part of a successful conception.

  6. You crack me up :). Seriously, though, the first thought I had when you got a bfp was that your BFB had just moved away! Must be connected somehow :).

  7. I wondered if the development and treatment of uterus spikes had some play as well. But, yes, the pressing question…what about those holes?!?

  13. Poor BFB. Turns out she was cock-blocking you the whole time! (or should I say catheter-blocking?). Are you talking to her again yet? How does she like the superficial, traffic-snarled hellhole that is SoCal? perhaps Goleta isn't so bad, but I'm not a big Goleta fan in any case. It's all run down boulevards, and right around the university has the honor of the highest concentration of std's in the country, I believe.I still have to make your doughnuts. MMMMMMmmmm. They have to help at any stage. Keep on eating them!

  14. So, I'm totally thinking about trying out the doughnuts this weekend… are they super hard? And do they taste like really gooey doughnuts (I'm not a fan of the over-the-top glazed mushy doughnuts…)? And is it too late for them to even help me??

  17. I wish there were more quality research on for-sure-getting-and-staying-pregnant. Just think of all the people you're helping with your donut recipes alone.

  18. I just knew that doughnuts were the answer! I have put my husband on notice that he is making me these (following your recipe) for our anniversary in December. We have lavender in our garden, so they will be extra-special.Regarding the good news of yesterday, I am glad to see that behbeh bunny is following my orders. I wonder what else I can make behbeh bunny do with my magical future-dwelling powers? 🙂
