Bun Bun’s V Card

This weekend we celebrated Bun Bun’s Achievement of Viability. I know–it’s a range, not a date, and we were very clear with him that this does NOT mean he should come out now (because, um, the house is a mess), but it IS a big milestone. First I had myself a (prenatal) massage. Mr. Bunny and I both love a good massage, so we go together every few months. I haven’t had one since early in my pregnancy, though, and because my favorite part is lying face down while someone wales on my back and shoulders, I was curious to discover what it would be like now that lying face down is not an option. We went to a place we’ve been a million times before, and I just assumed that because we’d booked a prenatal massage, the therapist would be expecting to give me a prenatal massage. So I was surprised when she told me to lie face down on the table. But I was like, Hey, what do I know. Maybe it works fine, and gave it a shot. Bun Bun immediately protested. Oh NO YOU DI’N’T! Bun Bun will NOT be steamrolled! When the therapist returned, I explained the difficulty, and DUH, she had no idea I was pregnant. In case you’re curious, a prenatal massage involves being propped up slightly on a wedge, on your back for part of the time and on your side for part of the time. And being kicked by a fetus most of the time, but that part might only happen if you squash it first.

Then Bun Bun got carrot cake. You know, indirectly.

The official 24 week date.

Then we watched TV.

  1. Yeah, you'll only make that mistake (trying to lie on your stomach) once. Felt to me like I was being kicked in the chest, and the little one was NOT amused. Now I want carrot cake. Thanks!

  2. Oh I love this – Happy Viability, Bun Bun. Now don't go anywhere! Glad you had a lovely massage – and carrot cake – I LOVE carrot cake!

  3. Congrats on viability, Bun Bun!Weird, I thought prenatal massages used a special table with a hole or indentation for the belly. No? How strange she didn't expect you to be pregnant. Not so smart, that one…

Let them eat cake! Did the therapist not understand the purpose and scope of a prenatal massage? To massage a pregnant person? Or do nonpregnant people routinely schedule prenatal massages, thus confusing her? Hmmm? And, yay viability! Bun Bun isn't done cooking, but how nice to know the souffle will come out risen if need be….

  6. Happy V Day, BunBun! I had one prenatal massage around 30 weeks, and the therapist had this big adaptor pillow for the table where the middle was cut out for your bump so you could still lay on your belly. My bean had the same reaction as BunBun ("Um, hell no!") and I started freaking out that I was somehow compressing the cord (I had weird cord fears) and asked the therapist if there was some other way to do the massage. We did the remainder of the massage side-lying, and it was soooo nice. Probably because I could relax better not feeling a certain fetus struggle against the confines of my ute. I still have the second half of a massage gift certificate left…but I have no idea when in the hell I'll be able to steal a whole hour for that now. And I could toooootally use it. I wonder if she does house calls? 😉

  7. Congradulations on reaching 24 weeks!!!! that's a good milestone, savor it. I had a FANTASTIC prenatal massage and there was no lying on my stomach–on each side with a body pillow, it was really wonderful.

Happy Viability. Love how you spent it!

  11. I had a side-lying prenatal massage a couple weeks ago. I was worried that it wouldn't be as relaxing as a belly-down massage, but it was all I could do not to drool all over the pillow. But a carrot-cake chaser … brilliant.

Congrats! You're cruising right along, lady! Happy Viability, Bun Bun! You and Mr. Bunny are too damn cute!

  14. You mean I could get a prenatal massage now, only that it would be very very long before delivery? But at least the lying-face-down part would not be a problem… And I love carrot cake.Happy viability, Bun Bun!

  15. Congratulations to US on reaching Viability! You celebrated in style, I celebrated on the couch! Regardless, it feels pretty good to achieve this milestone, doesn't it?? I just checked out Bun Bun's secret page… you look fantastic!

  16. Happy Viability, Bun Bun and Bunny Family!! 🙂 Sounds like a terrific day! – once the squashing stopped, of course.

  17. Mmm..that cake looks good. Way to go, Bun Bun!

  18. I've always hated the word viable. It sounds so mediocre for such a BIG milestone. We should use words like Exceptional or Phenomonal instead of Viable. Congrats though, I can't pretend to know what it feels like to have that secure word attached to your pregnancy, but I bet it feels pretty darn good.xx

  19. I had no idea that when you booked a prenatal massage you actually had to state your status as a pregnant person. Good to know. I'll tuck that factoid in my back pocket. Viability is SO awesome. Bun Bun, you rock! I hope you know how proud you are making your mom and dad. I bet he/she enjoyed the carrot cake. Or at least you did. (looks fantastic! Oh, and so do you at 24 weeks. Not sure what you are taking about in terms of huge ass). Hey Bunny, I also wanted to thank you most sincerely for your encouragements with my academic progression. It's been such a slog, but you cheering me on in the last months has really helped me believe that it will come to a (successful) conclusion. Thank you, dear woman.

VIABILITY! Awesome, bunny, such a huge milestone. 6 more days til I'm there and I would be lying if I said I wasn't holding my breath a bit esp with the continued spotting.

  22. Who makes it to viability and strangers cannot tell?I am heading directly to BunBun page to see the newest pic. I hope it is there….
